Auld Lang Syne
In my corner chair
Triple no-foam latte
Firmly in hand
People file in and
Form a line without instruction
Tall ones, short
Thin ones, thick
Beauty is in the eyes of
The one that holds us
In the midst of the clatter
The sounds of foaming milk
And coffee grinding
A quiet awaits me
If I will listen
And even the awareness
The sad truth of
Friends who die and
Family lies
We still plod through
Some days wounded
But always
In spite of everything
Thankful
For one more day
Of coffee
And laughter
And life
Triple no-foam latte
Firmly in hand
People file in and
Form a line without instruction
Tall ones, short
Thin ones, thick
Beauty is in the eyes of
The one that holds us
In the midst of the clatter
The sounds of foaming milk
And coffee grinding
A quiet awaits me
If I will listen
And even the awareness
The sad truth of
Friends who die and
Family lies
We still plod through
Some days wounded
But always
In spite of everything
Thankful
For one more day
Of coffee
And laughter
And life
