That's what Steve Jobs said in one of his Now famous emails Like we need reminding I saw a documentary on cable About Billy Joel's final concert in Shea Stadium As if that wasn't enough Paul McCartney flies from the UK To join him in remembering And the roadie whose cousin worked at the Port Authority Got Paul's plane cleared to land first And then whisked through customs And then another New Yorker Called in a favor to get A police escort Which meant Macca made it Just in time for the Piano Man Finale This may not mean anything to you But, for me, a man searching desperately for A miracle in a dark world where Coaches molest young boys And bureaucrats casually cover it up And then give speeches about tradition And honor to really big donors And those boys shrivel into despair And I ask what it means And you don't answer And I'm not sure why you are silent Is it because you don't know Or is it even worse than that Is it You do know but are afraid to say... Gas money

Life and all its messy particulars

I remember the knowing And not simply suspecting I saw it on the men's faces The bewilderment The terror The realization we were not up to the task It was a birthing class Monumental, to be sure But it was only the first Of many more opportunities I find it ironic, but instructive The words of the teacher >> Two things to remember >> Relax and >> Breathe She stated very calmly With a child at her breast This thing happens Every day You can do this Just remember Relax And breathe Now, I am reminded of my favorite maxim I heard it delivered in jest >> It is hard to remember >> Your primary mission >> Was to drain the swamp >> When you are up to your ass >> In alligators No matter how silly It is true We forget We tense We hold our breathe We wear ourselves weary With worry and doubt Our fears overwhelm us Just like the teacher said Birth is hard work The baby has to come out And so it is Who we are Who we will be Who we must be Demands ...

Who knew it worked this way
