A) The Jesus who turned over the tables of the money-changers in the temple and chased them away with a whip? Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 21 B) The Jesus who when confronted by the religious leaders of the day with a "woman taken in adultery" asking if she should be stoned to death did not condemn her but, instead, stated "Let the one among you without sin cast the first stone"? Gospel of John, Chapter 8 C) The Jesus who talked with the outcast woman at the well in Samaria when women were considered less than fully human by the religious doctrine of the day? It was only a baby step out of the cloistered world of my childhood, as I only moved into a dormitory across town. And, even though you would think it not much of a step - from a dysfunctional home to a dysfunctional religious college - it was momentous. The world of my childhood was one of mental illness, rage and fear. It was one of sectarian dogma where only those in my world were saved (even if just barely) , and everyone else heading for hellfire. If that weren't bleak enough, I was told it was my duty to save as many of these lost souls as possible. LU HSI-SHENG** If you are familiar with the Meyers-Briggs personality profile, then you will know what it means to say that I am an INFJ. If not, suffice it to say I am an introvert who navigates the world through intuition and feelings. Sometimes, of course, this can be very helpful. Other times, not so much. What I have learned in my 60 years is that feelings are not facts. Actually, feelings are rarely facts. They are simply my feelings at that moment that can be the result of many factors. Maybe a bad childhood memory. Or possibly even a hormonal reaction to the current situation....
