Songs

All of us submit
Verses for consideration
A meandering ballad or
Occasionally a bawdy bar sing-along
Somedays the song is muted to only a
Whispering afterthought
Other days we might mistakenly mumble or hum
The almost forgotten refrain
Why must we persist in these maybe
Misplaced attempts at melody
I wish I could tell you
I know only that we must
Sing - or else
The world mourns the loss
Of the singular voice
Whose tone has been crafted
By every broken-heart day and
Every passion-kissed night
