Contrasting styles

My son made amazing things
Roses, diamonds, flying cranes
From almost any paper
Even discarded wrappings from
Christmas gifts his mother gave
Out of obligation
No matter how she shopped
She never found love the right size to fit
His lanky framed soul
God how I loved those
Intricately folded creations
It gave me faith in
An ordered world I did not know but
Dreamed of
In my waste basket there are hastily created
Worlds of crumpled mistakes
And although each is unique
Some might say even pretty
They still insult the origami destinies
I once dreamed of
But have long since forgotten
