Tao 13 thoughts

Only he who is willing to give his body for the sake of the world is fit to be entrusted with the world.
Only he who can do it with love is worthy of being steward of the world.
Tao 13

76-year-old Dorwan Stoddard, a retired construction worker, was one of five killed at the scene. His wife, Mavy, was by his side. She was shot three times but is expected to make a full recovery.  Dorwan covered his wife with his body, saving her life.

Shortly before 2:30 PM EST, as Reagan walked out of the hotel's T Street NW exit toward his waiting limousine, Hinckley emerged from the crowd of admirers and fired a Röhm RG-14 .22 cal. blue steel revolver six times in three seconds, missing the President with five of the six shots. The first bullet hit White House Press Secretary James Brady in the head. The second hit District of Columbia police officer Thomas Delahanty in the back.  The third overshot the president and hit the window of a building across the street.

The fourth hit Secret Service agent Timothy McCarthy in the abdomen as he spread his body over Reagan to make himself a target. (From Wikipedia)

From where does such love come?
When was it born?
How did it grow?
Is it spawned in only those nobly borne?
Is it nurtured only in the finest schools?
Is it prized only by those of one faith or another?

All good questions
Good to ponder
But, if such love inspires
If such selflessness can move
Even the heart most staid
I think a better
More pertinent question
Much more pressing
Possibly even crushing
Is to ask
In a fleeting flash of truth
Is
Does such love
Live
Even a little
In me
