How to feel sadness

First, you must stop
Running, walking, crawling
Stand or sit
Be still
Then breathe

Close your eyes
Just for a moment
Trust the darkness
Breathe again
Open
Eyes, ears

Notice things
Listen
Do not ignore
Dirty things
Poor things
Quiet things

Everywhere
There are broken, humble lives
Abandoned houses

Be thankful for every dirty, poor, broken, abandoned
Moment in your life
Remember all the things
That brought you here
Feel every sorrow
That brought you here
To joy
Feel that, too
