Time
The smoke
From my cigar floats
On the evening breeze
A distant thunder rumbles
Heat lightning flashes like
Forgotten love or
Fading regret
A day lived well
Lazy and unplanned
It has taken years, miles
Hard and unexpected
To see this
A young man
Unaware and flimsy
Once walked with me
Now
I smoke
Knowing that
Time does not fly by always
It sometimes waits
Passing slowly
Asking only that
We notice
And savor its passing
From my cigar floats
On the evening breeze
A distant thunder rumbles
Heat lightning flashes like
Forgotten love or
Fading regret
A day lived well
Lazy and unplanned
It has taken years, miles
Hard and unexpected
To see this
A young man
Unaware and flimsy
Once walked with me
Now
I smoke
Knowing that
Time does not fly by always
It sometimes waits
Passing slowly
Asking only that
We notice
And savor its passing
